ABCs of the Word, "X"

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is eXcellent or praiseworthy-think about such things."
Philippians 4:8

Pam, at Grey Like Snuffie said we could pick out a verse that is meaningful to us since "x" is a hard letter to find. I found a verse with one as a second letter. It is meaningful to me as well, because God has been working on my thought life for quite some time. Now that I'm in the Self Talk Soul Talk study, I thought this would be a good verse to keep in mind.  I don't always follow it, and like I frequently say, I am thankful for God's forgiveness.

I needed that forgiveness today, when I let myself be irritated by someone at work, and repeated what he said that bugged me to someone who got more irritated than I did, as it involved her, too.  I ended up deciding to tell him I repeated it and had been irritated, but was over it.  I told him he may have been trying to be helpful, but I took it as him telling me to hurry up. I was thankful he seemed to take it in stride.

Peace be with you.

  3. I wish I could remember this one. Bible memory doesn't come to me like it used to...but this is such an amazing scripture.

  4. Thanks for the comments. I have trouble memorizing Scripture, but have it in my heart enough that I recognize whether something said is from the Bible or not. If someone starts a verse, I can frequently finish it, maybe not word for word, though. And, some, like this one, God brings to my mind sometimes.

I am remembering right now, that one of the verses shortly after this one refers to the peace of God one experiences when they think of the things in the verse.

Just sitting here with you and God's Word is making me feel good this morning as I am about to start my work day.

Blessings on you day, Laura, magiceye, and Pam!

  5. Sue, I don't know you personally (only through blogging) but you seem like one of those rare people that if I did ever have the blessing of meeting you, you would be e'X'actly who you are on your blog. I hope that made sense. You seem to me an honest, genuine, and open book kind of person without any pretense. I hope you don't mind me saying that here.

Your scripture verse is one of my favorites. It reminds me of "As a man thinks in his heart so is he" Prov. 23:7 We can't fool our own heart but it starts in our mind... keeping it trained on God and all the things listed in your reference to keep our heart focused.
    Great post!

  6. Wow, Sue! I am in awe of your handling of the problem at work, especially that you went back to the person and TOLD THE TRUTH of what had been said. That takes God-courage! If more Christians would accept we make mistakes and deal with them as promptly and humbly as you did, more souls would be attracted to the life we have in Christ. Thanks for such an encouraging story!

  8. Sounds like you handled that one well. Truly, I think it's best to deal with those situations up front like that and move on.

    Beautiful post.

  10. I wanted to find the post where I knew some nice things were said that I had not replied to. Thanks! I don't always handle things in a Godly way, but the people I work with know I'm a Christian, and don't stay mad about things. They know I may be irritated about something, but I forgive and move on.

I'm thankful to God for the ability he gives me to forgive, but my prayer is not to be a fool who shows her annoyance at once, which is a Proverb.

    Thanks again for the comments!
